Obituary of Clarence Albert Van Dyne
CLARENCE VANDYNE
Clarence Albert VanDyne, 80, of Barnesville, Ohio, was welcomed into his eternal home Monday, April 23, 2018. He was born in Washington, Ohio, December 21, 1937 to John Van Dyne and Mary Burkhart Van Dyne.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Michael Van Dyne in 2017; sister, Helen Van Dyne; and brother, Richard Van Dyne.
He was the loving husband of and is survived by his wife, Carmen VanDyne. He was a loving father and will be missed by his children, Ann, Shirley, and David. As a grandpa, there was no one better and he will be missed by Joshua, Rachel, Paige, Patrick, Brian, Nathan, Sumer, Alysa, Clarice, Briana, and Mackenzie. He was a wonderful great-grandpa whose smile was made of sunshine to Aden, Zoe, Jude, Gideon, Logan, Liam, Sophiah, Gabrielle, Madison, and Cheynne; brother and friend, Vernon Van Dyne.
Clarence and Carmen began their lives together on December 23, 1967, building their home in Nuevo Arrijan, Panama. Proudly serving his country in the United States Army, his military service became his career, taking him to Vietnam and Korea. He served as a Green Beret in the Special Forces. He was a retired Correction Officer from Trenton State Prison.
An avid fisherman, he enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren how to fish, bait the hooks, and how to scale the fish. His sense of humor was amazing and he enjoyed playing video games with the grandchildren. Clarence always enjoyed his family being together as much as possible and made sure there was always a place for their gatherings.
His passion for his family led him to teach them all the meaning of respect and its importance in everyday life. While never leaving his children and grandchildren when they needed him, he allowed them to make mistakes throughout their lives and to learn from them. He enjoyed learning and sharing the family ancestry.
His love for traveling the world took him to Panama, Peru, Germany, Paris, Nicaragua, and many other wonderful places. He was a man of great strength and never gave up. He was the family’s legacy, hero, and the man, they all looked up to.
Family and friends are welcome to visit, Friday from 11 am until the time of service, beginning at 1 pm, Patron Funeral Homes & Crematory Kelly Kemp Braido, 702 E. Main Street, Barnesville, Ohio. Pastor Ed Eberhart officiating. Military Honors will be conducted at 1:15 pm led by Belmont County Veterans Association. Honoring Clarence’s wishes, interment will be private at a later date.
