Obituary of Vernon L. Smith

VERNON L. SMITH

 

Vernon L. Smith, 81, of Morristown, Ohio, passed away at his home April 20, 2018 with his loving family at his side.  He was born in Egypt Valley, Ohio to Leslie K. Smith and Velma M. Boniphant Smith on September 14, 1936.

 

A 1954 graduate of Flushing High School, Vernon proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.  After his military tour of duty, he worked as an electrician for Consolidated Coal, retiring with 39 years of service.  He enjoyed farming, antiquing with his wife, Roberta, and most of all, his family.

 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Roberta C. Smith; brother, Carl Smith; infant brother, George Smith; and sister, Phyliss Ciesielka.

 

Vernon was extremely loving and very proud of his daughters, Roxane Smith and her fiance, Rob Clodfelter of Delaware, Ohio, Glenda Ellis and her husband, Rusty of Bethesda, Ohio, Seliene Swallie and her husband, Brad of Thornville, Ohio.  Also surviving are Vernon’s five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Marjorie Ourant and her husband, Jack of Scio, Ohio, Martha Glasglow of St. Clairsville, Ohio, Delora “Billie Jean” Zollars of East Richland, Ohio; and brothers, Charles Smith and his wife, Joan of Flushing, Ohio, Wayne Smith of St. Clairsville, Ohio, and Robert Smith of North Carolina.

 

In honoring Vernon’s wishes, there will be no visitation and a private interment will take place at a later date.

The family has entrusted Vernon’s care with Patron Funeral Homes & Crematory Kelly Kemp Braido, Bethesda, Ohio.
