DAVID E. STEPHEN

David E. Stephen, 84, of Somerton, Ohio, died Monday, January 8, 2018 at Barnesville Hospital with his family by his side.  Born July 5, 1933 in Somerton, Ohio, he was the only son of the late Fred and Mary Carpenter Stephen.

He was a 1951 graduate of Somerton High School and attended Muskingum College.  He was retired from Consol Mining and loved his part time job working for Lashley Tractor Sales.  Dave loved all sports, especially camping and bowling.  He coached little league, umpired soft ball games, and in his younger days, was an excellent basketball player.  He was Somerton Alumni of the Year recipient and dearly loved Somerton Park.  He was often referred to as “Mayor of Somerton.”  He was a member of the BPOE #1699 and played cards there regularly. He was the Grand Marshall of the Pumpkin Festival in 2005.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughter, Carla Seckman; infant son, Mark; and grandson, Ryan Seckman.

Dave will be sadly missed and is survived by his wife of 65 years, the love of his life, whom he married December 27, 1952, Rosemary Slevin Stephen; children, Rise (Art) Gibson, Chris (Leslie) Stephen, Matthew (Jill) Stephen; grandchildren, Josh (Christy) Stephen, Andrew (Jessica) Gibson, Cole and Cade Stephen, Erica (Matt) Halsey, Courtney (Derick) Valine,  Jacey and Jett Stephen; great-grandchildren, Xander, Londyn, Cruz, Calista, Bane, Tate, Quinn, and a soon-to be great-grandson. 

Family and friends are welcome to visit, Wednesday from 2-8 p.m., Patron Funeral Homes & Crematory Kelly Kemp Braido, 702 East Main Street, Barnesville, Ohio, where the service will be conducted, Thursday 11 a.m.  Father Dave Cornett presiding.  Interment will follow at Somerton Cemetery, Somerton, Ohio.
