Obituary of Margaret Ann Clayton

MARGARET CLAYTON

Margaret “Ann” Clayton, 78, of Barnesville, Ohio, was welcomed into her eternal home on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Astoria Place.  Born March 10, 1939 in, Barnesville, Ohio, she was the daughter and only child of Clifford and Kathryn Gill.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Clayton.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Clayton of Barnesville, Ohio; brother-in-law, Jeff Anderson; and niece, Carmen Anderson

Ann attended Ohio State University where she received her teaching degree. After graduating from OSU, she taught school in Euclid, Ohio.  She remained a football fan and enjoyed watching the games and cheering on the Buckeyes.  Returning to Barnesville, she lived in the house she grew up in and became a teacher for Barnesville Middle School.  She was a very active member of Assumption Catholic Church and taught CCD classes for many years.  She was proud to be an active part of the Barnesville community, where she knew everyone and everyone knew her.  She enjoyed many types of crafting from crocheting to quilting.

She was a loving and devoted wife and mother.  An active member and former president of the Belmont County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogy Society, she had a true passion for helping many, not only from Belmont County, but all over, learn, collect, and preserve information about their ancestry.  She cared deeply about making sure historic area cemeteries were maintained, well cataloged, and restored for future generations.

Family and friends are welcome to visit, Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m., Patron Funeral Homes & Crematory Kelly Kemp Braido, 702 East Main Street, Barnesville, Ohio.  A Prayer Vigil will begin at 8 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Thursday at 10 a.m., Assumption Catholic Church, 306 West Main Street, Barnesville, Ohio.  Father Dave Cornett presiding.  Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Byesville, Ohio.
