I've never forgotten playing in the Emory's back yard on the hill in Bethesda around 1960 or so. The boys were putting grass down the back of my shirt and I was crying and wrestling around trying to get away. Then I heard Ed, Sr. yell out "Leave that boy alone". He started out across the yard and the boys took off running. Ed picked me up, cleaned me off, and made sure I was OK. He seemed to be a giant of a man but treated me so gentle and kind. I was about 5 years old but I've never forgotten it; nor the amazement I felt that someone as big and important as Ed, would care enough to make sure this crybaby was alright.
My sincere condolences to the entire Emory family.
